I was in Tokyo for business meetings and Irene joined me for the weekend and we caught up with our Japanese friends whom we met at our French language school in Paris.

Himeji, a thriving industrial port of 470,000, located on the scenic Inland Sea, has a world treasure at its center. With its tiled donjon and towers, its gates, earthen walls, massive stone foundations and ramparts, moat and grounds, Himeji Castle is a magnificent example of Japanese castle architecture.

We found it the most beautiful one with its garden among all the Japanese castles we have been to. During the sakura season, there were special performance in the garden and special lighting in the evening.

Tokyo is a fascinating and exciting city. A mega city with good food, nice people, historical sites and great shopping. The subway and Japan Rail (JR) system has a very extensive reach and therefore can be very complicated for some people.

Izu is a nice area where Japanese people used to love spending their honey moon there. It has a very nice and interesting coast line, interesting fishing villages.

he Shirakawa is a village surrounded by mountains and lies in the northwestern part of Gifu Prefecture.

The steeply inclined thatched roof of Gassho-zukuri is the unique feature of Shirakawago. ?°Gassho?± literally means the prayer and the word derived from the shape of the roof which resembles the palms joined when one prays. People here are devout and fervent followers of Jodoshinshu sect of Buddhism which supported their harsh lives in this snowbound region.
